Who are the users?
Construction project managers, site supervisors, construction and quality field team leads will use the product to cost, plan, and report the progress of construction. Vendors and sub-contractors will use the product to submit estimates, review scheduling, and submit change requests. Back-office account managers, A/R, A/P and payroll clerks will use the product to account for income and expenses against projects over time, and report on the profitability of the works. Project managers, senior management, and potentially clients will use the product to view the status of potential and ongoing projects, and compare them against historical data.
Why would they want it?
Project management generates a lot of data, from field reports to cost estimates, from many different sources. This data needs to be collected, organized and presented in a fashion that allows for quick decision making at multiple levels within the company. To deliver to this need, all of this disparate data needs to be made meaningful and actionable. It needs to be accessible in both medium and format to the users defined.
